  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to taxation; sales and use; exempting 
  1.3             materials and supplies used in constructing a 
  1.4             community center by a nonprofit corporation; amending 
  1.5             Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 297A.25, by adding a 
  1.6             subdivision. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 297A.25, is 
  1.9   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.10     Subd. 79.  [CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS FOR A COMMUNITY CENTER.] 
  1.11  Purchases of materials and supplies used or consumed in and 
  1.12  equipment incorporated into the construction of a community 
  1.13  center by a nonprofit corporation are exempt from the tax 
  1.14  imposed under this chapter.  This exemption applies regardless 
  1.15  of whether the materials and supplies are purchased by the owner 
  1.16  or by a contractor, subcontractor, or builder.  To qualify for 
  1.17  the exemption under this subdivision, the nonprofit corporation 
  1.18  must have a signed letter of intent by March 31, 1999, with a 
  1.19  municipality to donate the center to the municipality upon 
  1.20  completion of construction. 
  1.21     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.22     Section 1 is effective for purchases made after the date of 
  1.23  final enactment and before June 30, 2000.
