A bill for an act
relating to appropriations; appropriating money for grants to filmmakers and
production companies from the refugee community in Minnesota.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin APPROPRIATION; REFUGEE COMMUNITY FILMMAKER
GRANTS.

new text begin $500,000 in fiscal year 2016 is appropriated from the general fund to the Board of
Directors of the Minnesota Humanities Center for grants to filmmakers and production
companies from the refugee community that have done prior productions on feature-length
stories to produce media projects located in Minnesota. For purposes of this section,
"refugee community" means persons who have become refugees from their country since
1975. Grants made under this section require a dollar-for-dollar match by the grantee.
Grant funds must be used only for project costs incurred in Minnesota. This appropriation
is available until expended.
