1.1 A bill for an act 1.2 relating to education; modifying distribution of 1.3 hazing policy; amending Minnesota Statutes 1998, 1.4 section 135A.155. 1.5 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 1.6 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 135A.155, is 1.7 amended to read: 1.8 135A.155 [HAZING POLICY.] 1.9 The board of trustees of the Minnesota state colleges and 1.10 universities shall, and the University of Minnesota is requested 1.11 to, adopt a clear, understandable written policy on student 1.12 conduct, including hazing. The policy must include procedures 1.13 for reporting incidents of inappropriate hazing and for 1.14 disciplinary actions against individual violators and 1.15 organizations. The policymust be provided to students when1.16they register and must beshall be made available to students by 1.17 appropriate means as determined by each institution, which may 1.18 include publication in a student handbook or other institutional 1.19 publication, or posting on a college or university web site, and 1.20 shall be posted at appropriate locations on campus. A private 1.21 post-secondary institution that is an eligible institution as 1.22 defined in section 136A.101, subdivision 4, must adopt a policy 1.23 that meets the requirements of this section.
