  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education; financing a new school powered 
  1.3             by gasification; appropriating money. 
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [GASIFICATION SCHOOL PILOT SITE.] 
  1.6      $12,000,000 is appropriated in fiscal year 2000 from the 
  1.7   general fund to independent school district No. 2167, Lakeview, 
  1.8   for a grant to construct a new kindergarten through grade 12 
  1.9   school.  Of this amount, $8,000,000 must be used to construct 
  1.10  the school facility and $4,000,000 must be used to construct a 
  1.11  gasification plant to provide electrical power and heat to the 
  1.12  school.  This grant must be matched by $4,000,000 in local 
  1.13  levy.  The school district shall provide the state with an 
  1.14  analysis of the potential benefits and energy savings from 
  1.15  utilizing gasification technology. 
  1.16     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.17     Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment.
