A bill for an act
relating to veterans; requiring provision of financial counseling services to
recently discharged veterans; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota
Statutes, chapter 197.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

new text begin The commissioner shall make available financial counseling services to any veteran
of any branch or unit of the United States armed forces, upon the person's separation or
discharge from active military service and for up to 18 months following the person's
separation or discharge.

new text begin Counseling services are deemed to be available to a person if the person is eligible to
obtain those services in a reasonably accessible manner and without cost from qualified
financial planners who have volunteered to provide the services to veterans at no cost,
provided that the commissioner has made significant efforts to inform eligible veterans of
the availability of those services, including procedures for obtaining them.
