  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to local government; allowing specified 
  1.3             municipal contributions to the general fund of a 
  1.4             volunteer firefighters relief association; amending 
  1.5             Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 424A.06, subdivision 
  1.6             2. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 424A.06, 
  1.9   subdivision 2, is amended to read: 
  1.10     Subd. 2.  [GENERAL FUND ASSETS AND REVENUES.] To the 
  1.11  general fund, if established, shall be credited all moneys 
  1.12  received from dues, fines, initiation fees, entertainment 
  1.13  revenues and any moneys or property donated, given, granted or 
  1.14  devised by any person, for unspecified uses.  Notwithstanding 
  1.15  section 424A.05, subdivision 2, or other law to the contrary, a 
  1.16  municipality may contribute up to $5,000 per year to the general 
  1.17  fund to pay for social events or awards that recognize volunteer 
  1.18  firefighters for their contributions to the community.  
  1.19  Municipal contributions must not be spent on alcoholic 
  1.20  beverages.  A municipality must ensure that the funds are spent 
  1.21  for a public purpose.  The treasurer of the relief association 
  1.22  shall be the custodian of the assets of the general fund and 
  1.23  shall be the recipient on behalf of the general fund of all 
  1.24  revenues payable to the general fund.  The treasurer shall 
  1.25  maintain adequate records documenting any transaction involving 
  1.26  the assets or the revenues of the general fund.  These records 
  2.1   shall be open for inspection by any member of the relief 
  2.2   association at reasonable times and places.
