  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to environment finance; appropriating money 
  1.3             for brownfield assessments for potential redevelopment 
  1.4             by community nonprofit organizations; appropriating 
  1.5             money.  
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.8      $375,000 in fiscal year 2002 and $375,000 in fiscal year 
  1.9   2003 are appropriated from the general fund to the commissioner 
  1.10  of the pollution control agency for a grant to a nonprofit 
  1.11  organization with experience in:  (1) facilitating redevelopment 
  1.12  of brownfields and assessing brownfields for redevelopment 
  1.13  projects; and (2) working with state voluntary inspection and 
  1.14  cleanup programs. 
  1.15     The purpose of the grant is to enable redevelopment of 
  1.16  brownfield sites around the state for ownership and use by 
  1.17  nonprofit organizations operating in communities where those 
  1.18  brownfields are located.  The grant must be used for assessments 
  1.19  of environmental contamination at the brownfield sites.  A 
  1.20  community nonprofit on whose behalf an assessment is being 
  1.21  conducted must share the cost of the assessment.
