  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to public utilities; regulating certain 
  1.3             transmission line siting; proposing coding for new law 
  1.4             in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 116C. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [116C.52] [TRANSMISSION LINE UPGRADES.] 
  1.7      Within the metropolitan area, as defined in section 
  1.8   473.121, subdivision 2, a utility that upgrades a transmission 
  1.9   line designed for and capable of operation at a nominal voltage 
  1.10  of 69 kilovolts or more must either bury the line or reroute the 
  1.11  line if rerouting results in significantly fewer residences 
  1.12  being within 100 feet of the line, unless neither alternative is 
  1.13  economically feasible.
