  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to food safety; revising the definition of 
  1.3             perishable food for purposes of open dating; amending 
  1.4             Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 31.782, subdivision 3.
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 31.782, 
  1.7   subdivision 3, is amended to read: 
  1.8      Subd. 3.  [PERISHABLE FOOD.] "Perishable food" means any 
  1.9   food intended for human consumption (other than meat and 
  1.10  poultry, frozen food, or fresh fruit or vegetables), which has a 
  1.11  quality assurance date.  "Perishable food" does not include 
  1.12  frozen foods, meat and poultry, or fresh fruits or vegetables 
  1.13  not packaged under controlled atmospheric or modified 
  1.14  atmospheric conditions.
