  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to natural resources; authorizing an 
  1.3             extension of the Goodhue-Pioneer trail to the city of 
  1.4             Bellechester in Goodhue county; amending Minnesota 
  1.5             Statutes 1998, section 85.015, subdivision 4. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 85.015, 
  1.8   subdivision 4, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 4.  [DOUGLAS TRAIL, OLMSTED, WABASHA, AND GOODHUE 
  1.10  COUNTIES.] (a) The trail shall originate at Rochester in Olmsted 
  1.11  county and shall follow the route of the Chicago Great Western 
  1.12  Railroad to Pine Island in Goodhue county and there terminate.  
  1.13     (b) Additional trails may be established that extend the 
  1.14  Douglas trail system to include Pine Island, Mazeppa in Wabasha 
  1.15  county to Zumbrota, Bellechester, Goodhue, and Red Wing in 
  1.16  Goodhue county.  In addition to the criteria in section 86A.05, 
  1.17  subdivision 4, these trails must utilize abandoned railroad 
  1.18  rights-of-way where possible.  
  1.19     (c) The trail shall be developed primarily for riding and 
  1.20  hiking.  
  1.21     (d) Under no circumstances shall the commissioner acquire 
  1.22  any of the right-of-way of the Chicago Great Western Railroad 
  1.23  until the abandonment of the line of railway described in this 
  1.24  subdivision has been approved by the Interstate Commerce 
  1.25  Commission.
