  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to human services; appropriating money for 
  1.3             services for deaf and hard-of-hearing persons. 
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.6      $100,000 is appropriated in fiscal years 2000 and 2001 from 
  1.7   the general fund to the commissioner of human services for a 
  1.8   grant to Peoples, Inc. to operate a drop-in center for persons 
  1.9   with mental illness that is communicatively accessible for 
  1.10  persons who are deaf or hard-of-hearing. 
  1.11     $100,000 is appropriated in fiscal years 2000 and 2001 from 
  1.12  the general fund to the commissioner of human services for 
  1.13  grants to provide specialized community-based mental health 
  1.14  services for the deaf and hard-of-hearing residing outside the 
  1.15  seven-county metropolitan area.  Services provided under these 
  1.16  grants may use remote access technology (RAT) for delivering 
  1.17  mental health services via teleconferencing from a centralized 
  1.18  site. 
  1.19     $195,000 is appropriated in fiscal years 2000 and 2001 from 
  1.20  the general fund to the commissioner of health for grants to 
  1.21  counties outside the seven-county metropolitan area to be used 
  1.22  for the county's match for specialized community-based 
  1.23  residential treatment services for the deaf and hard-of-hearing 
  1.24  in need of these services.
