A bill for an act
relating to public safety; appropriating money to the Board of Public Defense to
develop a system to serve and receive electronic documents.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin ELECTRONIC SERVICE OF DOCUMENTS.

new text begin (a) $625,000 in fiscal year 2018 and $600,000 in fiscal year 2019 are appropriated from
the general fund to the Board of Public Defense to develop a system to:

new text begin (1) receive electronic copies of authorized documents from city and county attorneys
and the court;
new text end

new text begin (2) serve electronic copies of authorized documents on city and county attorneys;
new text end

new text begin (3) file electronic copies of authorized documents with the court; and
new text end

new text begin (4) notify users when documents are served or filed.

new text begin (b) In developing the system described in paragraph (a), the Board of Public Defense
shall work with the Minnesota County Attorneys Association and the state court
administrator.
