A bill for an act
relating to natural resources; modifying body-gripping trap provisions; amending
Minnesota Statutes 2016, section 97B.903.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2016, section 97B.903, is amended to read:

new text begin (a) A person may not set, place, or operate a body-gripping
trap with a maximum jaw opening when set of more than 6-1/2 inches as measured from
the inside edges of the body-gripping portions of the jaws in the road right-of-way within
500 feet of a building occupied by a human or livestock without written permission of the
occupant or landowner.

new text begin (b) A person may not set, place, or operate a body-gripping trap that has a maximum
jaw opening when set of greater than 5-1/2 inches when measured from the inside edges of
the body-gripping portions of the jaws in or within three feet of the opening of a six-foot-wide
or smaller culvert in the road right-of-way.

new text begin (c) Paragraphs (a) and (b) do not apply to a completely submerged water set.

new text begin The revisor of statutes shall delete the term "conibear" or "conibear-type" wherever the
term appears in Minnesota Statutes and Minnesota Rules and make conforming grammatical
changes.
