A bill for an act
relating to agriculture; appropriating money for a grant for agronomic research
on native plants.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin APPROPRIATION; NATIVE PLANT RESEARCH.

new text begin $250,000 in fiscal year 2008 and $250,000 in fiscal year 2009 are appropriated from
the general fund to the commissioner of agriculture for annual grants to the Minnesota
Turf Seed Council for basic and applied agronomic research on native plants, including
plant breeding, nutrient management, pest management, disease management, yield, and
viability. The grant recipient may subcontract with a qualified third party for some or all
of the basic or applied research.
