relating to education; appropriating money for grants to civics education programs.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

new text begin The sums indicated in this section are
appropriated from the general fund to the commissioner of education for the fiscal years
designated.

new text begin Civics education grants. new text end

new text begin For grants to the Minnesota Civic Education Coalition,
Minnesota Civic Youth, Learning Law and Democracy Foundation, and YMCA Youth in
Government to provide civics education programs for Minnesota youth age 18 and younger.
Civics education means the study of constitutional principles and the democratic foundation
of our national, state, and local institutions, and the study of political processes and structures
of government, grounded in the understanding of constitutional government under the rule
of law.
