A bill for an act
relating to the Minnesota Historical Society; appropriating money for a bust of
former United States Supreme Court Justice Harry A. Blackmun.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

new text begin $....... is appropriated in fiscal year 2014 from the general fund to the Minnesota
Historical Society to commission a bust of former United States Supreme Court Justice
Harry A. Blackmun and install it on the second floor of the State Capitol opposite the bust
of former Chief Justice of the United States Warren E. Burger. Justice Blackmun served
on the United States Supreme Court from 1970 to 1994. Many of his years on the high
court coincided with those of Chief Justice Warren E. Burger, his childhood friend and
schoolmate in St. Paul. Justice Blackmun also served on the United States Court of
Appeals for the Eighth Circuit from 1959 to 1970, and was resident counsel to the Mayo
Clinic and Mayo Association in Rochester, Minnesota, from 1950 to 1959.
