A bill for an act
relating to workforce development; appropriating money for a grant to the American
Indian Opportunities and Industrialization Center.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin APPROPRIATION; AMERICAN INDIAN OPPORTUNITIES AND
INDUSTRIALIZATION CENTER.

new text begin $500,000 in fiscal year 2022 and $500,000 in fiscal year 2023 are appropriated from the
workforce development fund for grants to the American Indian Opportunities and
Industrialization Center, in collaboration with the Northwest Indian Community Development
Center, to reduce academic disparities for American Indian students and adults. The grant
funds may be used to provide:

new text begin (1) student tutoring and testing support services;

new text begin (2) training and employment placement in information technology;
new text end

new text begin (3) training and employment placement within trades;
new text end

new text begin (4) assistance in obtaining a GED;
new text end

new text begin (5) remedial training leading to enrollment or to sustain enrollment in a postsecondary
higher education institution;

new text begin (6) real-time work experience in information technology fields and in the trades;
new text end

new text begin (7) contextualized adult basic education;
new text end

new text begin (8) career and educational counseling for clients with significant and multiple barriers;
and
new text end

new text begin (9) reentry services and counseling for adults and youth.

commissioner of education.
