  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to family law; providing for a study of the 
  1.3             proposed Uniform Parentage Act. 
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [UNIFORM PARENTAGE ACT STUDY AND REPORT.] 
  1.6      (a) The commissioner of human services shall appoint a task 
  1.7   force to review the Uniform Parentage Act adopted by the Uniform 
  1.8   Laws Commission in 2000 and to make recommendations to the 
  1.9   legislature on whether Minnesota should enact all or part of the 
  1.10  Uniform Parentage Act, whether portions of that act should be 
  1.11  amended, and when it should be effective if it is enacted. 
  1.12     (b) The task force appointed under paragraph (a) should 
  1.13  include, but is not limited to, persons representing: 
  1.14     (1) the department of human services; 
  1.15     (2) the department of health; 
  1.16     (3) adoption agencies; 
  1.17     (4) the Family Law and Children and the Law Sections of the 
  1.18  Minnesota State Bar Association; 
  1.19     (5) the Juvenile Law Section of the Hennepin County Bar 
  1.20  Association; 
  1.21     (6) genetic testing organizations; 
  1.22     (7) public defenders; 
  1.23     (8) county attorneys; 
  1.24     (9) legal service attorneys; 
  2.1      (10) judges; 
  2.2      (11) child support magistrates; 
  2.3      (12) children's advocates; 
  2.4      (13) communities of color; 
  2.5      (14) guardians ad litem; 
  2.6      (15) parent organizations; 
  2.7      (16) families involved in infertility treatment processes; 
  2.8   and 
  2.9      (17) adoptive families. 
  2.10     (c) The task force must submit its report and 
  2.11  recommendations to the chairs of the committees in the house of 
  2.12  representatives and senate with jurisdiction over family and 
  2.13  parentage issues by January 15, 2002.  The task force expires on 
  2.14  January 15, 2002. 
  2.15     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  2.16     This act is effective the day following final enactment.
