  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education; limiting liability of carrier 
  1.3             contracting with a school district to provide school 
  1.4             bus transportation; amending Minnesota Statutes 2002, 
  1.5             section 123B.88, by adding a subdivision. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 2002, section 123B.88, is 
  1.8   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 15a.  [LIABILITY LIMITS.] The liability of a carrier 
  1.10  with respect to claims against the carrier arising out of 
  1.11  transporting persons on school buses for activities contracted 
  1.12  for by the district, may not exceed the higher of the statutory 
  1.13  amount, according to section 466.12, for school districts or the 
  1.14  carrier's amount of insurance for any number of claims arising 
  1.15  out of a single occurrence. 
  1.16     [EFFECTIVE DATE.] This section is effective for claims 
  1.17  arising from incidents occurring on or after July 1, 2003.
