  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to health; appropriating money for grants to 
  1.3             increase awareness of risks to children from exposure 
  1.4             to toxic chemicals. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.7      $250,000 is appropriated from the general fund to the 
  1.8   commissioner of health in fiscal year 2002 for grants for public 
  1.9   or private initiatives to increase the public's awareness of: 
  1.10     (1) the risks that toxic indoor and outdoor air emissions 
  1.11  pose to Minnesota's children; and 
  1.12     (2) steps that parents, teachers, and others responsible 
  1.13  for the well-being of children, as well as the general public, 
  1.14  can take to reduce the amount of toxic chemicals to which 
  1.15  children are exposed.  
  1.16     Other state agencies are eligible for grants under this 
  1.17  appropriation.  The commissioner shall require grant recipients 
  1.18  to match the state grant with nonstate funding on a one-to-one 
  1.19  basis.  This appropriation does not cancel and is available 
  1.20  until expended.  This is a one-time appropriation and shall not 
  1.21  become part of the agency's base.
