  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to agriculture; providing for additional turf 
  1.3             grass research; requiring a report; appropriating 
  1.4             money.  
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATION; TURF GRASS RESEARCH.] 
  1.7      $300,000 in the first year and $300,000 in the second year 
  1.8   of the biennium ending June 30, 2003, are appropriated from the 
  1.9   general fund to the commissioner of agriculture for a grant, 
  1.10  under contract, to the northern Minnesota forage-turf seed 
  1.11  advisory committee.  This appropriation is for basic and applied 
  1.12  research for the improved production of forage and turf seed and 
  1.13  for educational and marketing activities related to new and 
  1.14  improved varieties.  Basic and applied research may be 
  1.15  contracted to a qualified third party.  Of this appropriation, 
  1.16  not more than $....... may be expended for educational and 
  1.17  marketing activities. 
  1.18     Not later than March 1, 2002, the commissioner shall 
  1.19  provide an interim report on the grant to the senate and house 
  1.20  of representatives committees dealing with agricultural policy 
  1.21  and finance. 
  1.22     This is a one-time appropriation.
