  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education finance; extending the school 
  1.3             district levy for retired employee health benefits; 
  1.4             amending Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 126C.41, 
  1.5             subdivision 2.  
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 126C.41, 
  1.8   subdivision 2, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 2.  [RETIRED EMPLOYEE HEALTH BENEFITS.] A district 
  1.10  may levy an amount up to the amount the district is required by 
  1.11  the collective bargaining agreement in effect on March 30, 1992, 
  1.12  to pay for health insurance or unreimbursed medical expenses for 
  1.13  licensed and nonlicensed employees who have terminated services 
  1.14  in the employing district and withdrawn from active teaching 
  1.15  service or other active service, as applicable, before July 1, 
  1.16  1992.  The total amount of the levy each year may not 
  1.17  exceed $300,000 90 percent of the actual expenditures for those 
  1.18  employees.  
  1.19     [EFFECTIVE DATE.] This section is effective for taxes 
  1.20  payable in 2002 and later.
