  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to commerce; prohibiting discrimination by 
  1.3             age in the rental of automobiles to persons at least 
  1.4             21 years of age; proposing coding for new law in 
  1.5             Minnesota Statutes, chapter 325F. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [325F.661] [AUTOMOBILE RENTAL; AGE 
  1.8   DISCRIMINATION.] 
  1.9      Subdivision 1.  [DEFINITION.] For purposes of this section, 
  1.10  "auto rental company" means a corporation, partnership, 
  1.11  individual, or other person that is engaged primarily in the 
  1.12  renting of motor vehicles at per diem rates. 
  1.13     Subd. 2.  [PROHIBITION.] An auto rental company shall not 
  1.14  refuse to rent a motor vehicle to a person at least 21 years of 
  1.15  age solely on the basis of that person's age. 
  1.16     Subd. 3.  [CIVIL REMEDIES.] An auto rental company found to 
  1.17  have violated this section is subject to the penalties and 
  1.18  remedies, including a private right of action, as provided in 
  1.19  section 8.31.
