A bill for an act
relating to natural resources; appropriating money from the clean water fund to
protect water supplies and lakes in the northeast Twin Cities.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin PROTECTING WATER SUPPLIES AND LAKES IN THE
NORTHEAST TWIN CITIES; APPROPRIATION.

new text begin $537,000 in fiscal year 2014 is appropriated from the clean water fund to the
commissioner of natural resources for a contract with the United States Geological
Survey to collect water quality and lake water outflow data to be used with optimization
techniques to determine lake water contribution to wells and optimal extraction scenarios
for municipal wells near lakes in the northeast Twin Cities. By November 15 each year
of the contract, the United States Geological Survey shall report its progress to the
commissioner of natural resources and shall provide a final report to the commissioner by
July 15, 2016. This is a onetime appropriation and is available until June 30, 2016.
