  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to health; medical assistance coverage for 
  1.3             disabled working individuals; amending Minnesota 
  1.4             Statutes 1998, section 256B.057, by adding a 
  1.5             subdivision. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 256B.057, is 
  1.8   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 9.  [DISABLED WORKING INDIVIDUALS.] (a) Medical 
  1.10  assistance may be paid for an employed individual who:  (1) 
  1.11  would be eligible for the supplemental security income program, 
  1.12  except for excess income and assets; (2) meets the asset 
  1.13  standard in paragraph (b); and (3) pays a premium as provided 
  1.14  under paragraph (c). 
  1.15     (b) In order to qualify for medical assistance under this 
  1.16  subdivision, an individual's assets, as determined using the 
  1.17  exclusions of the supplemental security income program, and also 
  1.18  excluding retirement accounts and medical savings accounts, must 
  1.19  not exceed $20,000. 
  1.20     (c) In order to qualify for medical assistance under this 
  1.21  subdivision, an individual must pay a monthly premium equal to 
  1.22  ten percent of any income over 250 percent of the federal 
  1.23  poverty guidelines, for a household size of one.
