  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to Washington county; delaying an expiration 
  1.3             date on certain "droplist" legislation; amending Laws 
  1.4             1997, First Special Session chapter 3, section 27. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  Laws 1997, First Special Session chapter 3, 
  1.7   section 27, is amended to read: 
  1.8      Sec. 27.  [TAXPAYER'S PERSONAL INFORMATION; DISCLOSURE.] 
  1.9      (a) An owner of property in Washington or Ramsey county 
  1.10  that is subject to property taxation must be informed in a clear 
  1.11  and conspicuous manner in writing on a form sent to property 
  1.12  taxpayers that the property owner's name, address, and other 
  1.13  information may be used, rented, or sold for business purposes, 
  1.14  including surveys, marketing, and solicitation. 
  1.15     (b) If the property owner so requests on the form provided, 
  1.16  then any such list generated by the county and sold for business 
  1.17  purposes must exclude the owner's name and address if the 
  1.18  business purpose is conducting surveys, marketing, or 
  1.19  solicitation. 
  1.20     (c) This section expires August 1, 1999 2001. 
  1.21     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.22     The amendment made by this act applies to Washington county 
  1.23  only.  The amendment is effective the day after the chief 
  1.24  clerical officer of Washington county files a certificate of 
  1.25  approval that complies with Minnesota Statutes, section 645.021, 
  2.1   subdivision 3.
