  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to local government; requiring preparation of 
  1.3             a draft urban rivers act. 
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [URBAN RIVERS ACT.] 
  1.6      The office of strategic and long-range planning, in 
  1.7   consultation with appropriate and affected parties, must prepare 
  1.8   a draft urban rivers act to guide sustainable development along 
  1.9   the central business districts of rivers in urban areas of the 
  1.10  state.  The office must: 
  1.11     (1) evaluate existing state and municipal laws; 
  1.12     (2) review federal legislation affecting urban rivers; and 
  1.13     (3) specify the technical and administrative procedures to 
  1.14  guide urban river development. 
  1.15     The draft act must be made available to the environmental 
  1.16  and economic development policy committees of the legislature, 
  1.17  and to interested parties, by January 15, 2002.
