A bill for an act
relating to economic development; appropriating money for the Minnesota
Inventors Congress.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin APPROPRIATION; MINNESOTA INVENTORS CONGRESS.

new text begin $150,000 in fiscal year 2014 and $150,000 in fiscal year 2015 are appropriated from
the general fund to the commissioner of employment and economic development to the
Minnesota Inventors Congress to accomplish the following:

new text begin (1) growing direct outreach to inventors by building and expanding one-to-one
invention and new product development coaching services;
new text end

new text begin (2) offering "Inventing Success Workshops" in nine key geographical areas across
the state;
new text end

new text begin (3) producing a yearly national-caliber expo where inventors can exhibit their
inventions, get public feedback, and network with professionals who can help them take
their invention to market; and
new text end

new text begin (4) collaborating with minority economic development groups to reach inventors
who are members of various minority communities.

new text begin Of this amount, at least $15,000 each year is for the Minnesota Student Inventors Congress
and other educational programs for youth inventors.
