A bill for an act
relating to public safety; providing for special "MN supports family farmers"
license plates; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 168.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

FARMERS.

new text begin Issuance and design. new text end

new text begin Notwithstanding section 168.1293, the
commissioner shall issue special plates showing support for family farmers to an applicant
who:

new text begin (1) is a registered owner of a passenger automobile, one-ton pickup truck,
motorcycle, or recreational vehicle;

new text begin (2) pays a fee of $10 for each set of license plates applied for; and
new text end

new text begin (3) complies with this chapter and rules governing registration of motor vehicles
and licensing of drivers.

new text begin The commissioner shall design the special plate emblem so that it
bears an inscription "MN Supports Family Farmers."

new text begin Plates transfer. new text end

new text begin On payment of a transfer fee of $5, plates issued under
this section may be transferred to another passenger automobile, one-ton pickup truck,
motorcycle, or recreational vehicle registered to the individual to whom the special
plates were issued.

new text begin The commissioner shall maintain a record of the number of
special plates issued under this section.

new text begin Fees collected under this section must be credited to the
general fund.

new text begin EFFECTIVE DATE. new text end

new text begin This section is effective January 1, 2014, for special plates
issued on or after that date.
