A bill for an act
relating to public safety; appropriating money to provide legal advocacy services
to human trafficking victims.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin LEGAL ADVOCACY FOR TRAFFICKING VICTIMS; GRANT.

new text begin $150,000 for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2010, and $150,000 for the fiscal year
ending June 30, 2011, are appropriated from the general fund to the commissioner of
public safety for a grant for ten weekly international trafficking screening clinics that
are staffed by attorneys from a nonprofit organization that provides free legal, medical,
dental, mental health, shelter, and vocational counseling services and English language
classes to trafficking victims in the state. The grant applicant shall prepare and submit
to the commissioner a written grant proposal detailing the screening clinic free services,
including components of the services offered.
