  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to government data practices; clarifying the 
  1.3             treatment of data on elected officials; amending 
  1.4             Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 13.43, subdivision 1. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 13.43, 
  1.7   subdivision 1, is amended to read: 
  1.8      Subdivision 1.  [DEFINITION.] As used in this section, 
  1.9   "personnel data" means data on individuals collected because the 
  1.10  individual is or was an employee of or an applicant for 
  1.11  employment by, performs services on a voluntary basis for, or 
  1.12  acts as an independent contractor with a state agency, statewide 
  1.13  system or political subdivision or is a member of or an 
  1.14  applicant for an advisory board or commission.  Government data 
  1.15  on elected officials are not personnel data and are subject to 
  1.16  section 13.03, subdivision 1.
