  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to state lands; authorizing conveyance of 
  1.3             certain tax-forfeited land in Koochiching county. 
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [CONVEYANCE OF TAX-FORFEITED LAND; KOOCHICHING 
  1.6   COUNTY.] 
  1.7      (a) Upon recommendation of the Koochiching county board, 
  1.8   the commissioner of revenue shall convey by deed in the name of 
  1.9   the state the tax-forfeited land described in paragraph (c) to 
  1.10  the Bois Forte Band of Chippewa Indians.  Except as otherwise 
  1.11  provided by this section, the conveyance shall be in the manner 
  1.12  provided under Minnesota Statutes, section 282.01, subdivision 
  1.13  1a, for conveyance of tax-forfeited land to a governmental 
  1.14  subdivision. 
  1.15     (b) The conveyance shall be for no consideration and in a 
  1.16  form approved by the attorney general.  Upon conveyance, the 
  1.17  lands are released from the trust in favor of Koochiching county.
  1.18     (c) The land that may be conveyed is in Koochiching county, 
  1.19  consists of approximately 9.6 acres, and is described as: 
  1.20  That part of the Southeast Quarter of the Northwest Quarter of 
  1.21  Section 16, Township 65 North, Range 23 West, described as 
  1.22  follows: 
  1.23     Commencing at the southeast corner of said Southeast 
  1.24     Quarter of the Northwest Quarter, and assuming the east 
  2.1      line thereof to have a bearing of North 00 degrees, 22 
  2.2      minutes, 29 seconds East; thence North 64 degrees, 39 
  2.3      minutes, 05 seconds West, 108.73 feet to the point of 
  2.4      beginning; thence North 63 degrees, 40 minutes, 58 seconds 
  2.5      West, 454.18 feet; thence North 89 degrees, 50 minutes, 06 
  2.6      seconds West, 423.42 feet; thence North 11 degrees, 54 
  2.7      minutes, 43 seconds East, 289.67 feet; thence North 89 
  2.8      degrees, 50 minutes, 45 seconds East, 59.10 feet; thence 
  2.9      South 03 degrees, 55 minutes, 37 seconds West, 866.09 feet 
  2.10     to the point of beginning.  
  2.11     (d) The county has determined that the land is needed by 
  2.12  the Bois Forte Band of Chippewa Indians to maintain burial 
  2.13  grounds and support the preservation of cultural, spiritual, and 
  2.14  historic interests. 
  2.15     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  2.16     Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment.
