  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to appropriations; rescinding authority for 
  1.3             the purchase of 800 MHz radio. 
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [EXPENDITURES FOR 800 MHZ RADIO.] 
  1.6      Notwithstanding Minnesota Statutes, section 473.901, Laws 
  1.7   1997, chapter 159, article 1, section 2, subdivision 7, 
  1.8   paragraph (g), or any other law to the contrary, no state 
  1.9   agency, including the metropolitan council, may make any further 
  1.10  expenditures relating to 800 MHz radio, including backbone, 
  1.11  infrastructure, capital costs, personnel, or any other 
  1.12  associated costs, unless specifically authorized by the 
  1.13  legislature.  Any purchases made after December 31, 1998, must 
  1.14  be returned to the vendor and the refunded money returned to the 
  1.15  general fund. 
  1.16     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.17     Section 1 is effective on the day following final enactment.
