  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to crime; authorizing prosecution of domestic 
  1.3             assault misdemeanors to be by a municipal or county 
  1.4             attorney in Ramsey county; appropriating money to the 
  1.5             Ramsey county attorney's office to fund the domestic 
  1.6             assault and child abuse protection unit; amending 
  1.7             Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 488A.27, subdivision 
  1.8             11. 
  1.9   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.10     Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 488A.27, 
  1.11  subdivision 11, is amended to read: 
  1.12     Subd. 11.  [PROSECUTING ATTORNEYS.] Except where the county 
  1.13  attorney is specifically designated by law as the prosecutor for 
  1.14  the particular violation charged, the attorney of the 
  1.15  municipality in which the violation is alleged to have occurred 
  1.16  shall have charge of the prosecution of all violations of 
  1.17  statutes, including gross misdemeanor violations, ordinances, 
  1.18  charter provisions or rules triable in this court and shall 
  1.19  prepare complaints for the violations.  
  1.20     Misdemeanor violations of section 609.2242, subdivision 1, 
  1.21  may be prosecuted by the attorney of the municipality in which 
  1.22  the violation is alleged to have occurred or by the county 
  1.23  attorney. 
  1.24     Sec. 2.  [RAMSEY COUNTY; APPROPRIATION FOR DOMESTIC ASSAULT 
  1.25  AND CHILD PROTECTION UNIT.] 
  1.26     $536,000 is appropriated from the general fund to the 
  1.27  Ramsey county attorney's office to establish and fund the 
  2.1   domestic assault and child abuse prosecution unit, to be 
  2.2   available until June 30, 2001.
