  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education; requiring schools and libraries 
  1.3             that provide Internet access to restrict certain 
  1.4             materials from minors; requiring school districts to 
  1.5             adopt or amend policies on Internet use; proposing 
  1.6             coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapters 
  1.7             125B; and 134.  
  1.8   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.9      Section 1.  [125B.22] [INTERNET ACCESS FOR STUDENTS.] 
  1.10     All school district computers with access to the Internet 
  1.11  available for student use must be equipped to restrict, to the 
  1.12  maximum extent possible under the law, including by use of 
  1.13  available software filtering technology, all access by students 
  1.14  to material which is reasonably believed to be obscene or child 
  1.15  pornography or material harmful to minors under federal or state 
  1.16  law. 
  1.17     Sec. 2.  [134.47] [INTERNET ACCESS FOR CHILDREN.] 
  1.18     All public library computers with access to the Internet 
  1.19  available for use by children under the age of 18 must be 
  1.20  equipped to restrict, to the maximum extent possible under the 
  1.21  law, including by use of available software filtering 
  1.22  technology, all access by children to material which is 
  1.23  reasonably believed to be obscene or child pornography or 
  1.24  material harmful to minors under federal or state law. 
  1.25     Sec. 3.  [SCHOOL DISTRICT INTERNET USE POLICY.] 
  1.26     Notwithstanding any law to the contrary, each school 
  2.1   district must adopt an Internet use policy or amend an existing 
  2.2   Internet use policy to comply with Minnesota Statutes, section 
  2.3   125B.22.
