  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to human services; creating adult mental 
  1.3             illness crisis housing; appropriating money; proposing 
  1.4             coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 245; 
  1.5             repealing Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 462A.208. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [245.99] [ADULT MENTAL ILLNESS CRISIS HOUSING 
  1.8   ASSISTANCE PROGRAM.] 
  1.9      Subdivision 1.  [CREATION.] The adult mental illness crisis 
  1.10  housing assistance program is established. 
  1.11     Subd. 2.  [RENTAL ASSISTANCE.] The program shall pay up to 
  1.12  90 days of housing assistance for persons with a serious and 
  1.13  persistent mental illness who require inpatient or residential 
  1.14  care for stabilization.  The commissioner of human services may 
  1.15  extend the length of assistance on a case-by-case basis. 
  1.16     Subd. 3.  [ELIGIBILITY.] Housing assistance under this 
  1.17  section is available only to persons of low or moderate income 
  1.18  as determined by the commissioner of human services. 
  1.19     Subd. 4.  [ADMINISTRATION.] The commissioner may contract 
  1.20  with organizations or government units experienced in housing 
  1.21  assistance to operate the program under this section. 
  1.22     Sec. 2.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.23     $300,000 is appropriated from the general fund to the 
  1.24  commissioner of human services for the adult mental illness 
  1.25  crisis housing assistance program for the biennium ending June 
  2.1   30, 1999. 
  2.2      Sec. 3.  [REPEALER.] 
  2.3      Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 462A.208, is repealed.
