  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to capitol complex security; appropriating 
  1.3             money for the purchase and installation of security 
  1.4             technology. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [CAPITOL COMPLEX SECURITY TECHNOLOGY 
  1.7   APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.8      (a) $500,000 is appropriated from the general fund for the 
  1.9   fiscal year ending June 30, 2002, to the commissioner of public 
  1.10  safety to be used by the capitol complex security oversight 
  1.11  committee described in Minnesota Statutes, section 299E.03.  The 
  1.12  committee's chair shall use the money at the direction of the 
  1.13  committee and with the advice of the commissioner to purchase 
  1.14  and install security technology in the capitol complex.  
  1.15  Legislative members of the committee may not vote on how the 
  1.16  money is to be used.  The technology must include, but is not 
  1.17  limited to, video cameras, and must be designed to enhance the 
  1.18  safety of legislators, constitutional officers, members of the 
  1.19  judiciary, commissioners of state agencies, visiting 
  1.20  dignitaries, and members of the public. 
  1.21     (b) By January 15, 2002, the committee's chair shall report 
  1.22  on how the money was spent to the chairs of the senate and house 
  1.23  committees or divisions having jurisdiction over capitol complex 
  1.24  security.
