  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to traffic regulations; requiring motorists 
  1.3             to move to the left lane of multilane highways when 
  1.4             approaching an emergency vehicle parked on the right 
  1.5             shoulder; amending Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 
  1.6             169.18, subdivision 1, and by adding a subdivision. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 169.18, 
  1.9   subdivision 1, is amended to read: 
  1.10     Subdivision 1.  [KEEP TO THE RIGHT.] Upon all roadways of 
  1.11  sufficient width a vehicle shall be driven upon the right half 
  1.12  of the roadway, except as follows: 
  1.13     (1) when overtaking and passing another vehicle proceeding 
  1.14  in the same direction under the rules governing such movement; 
  1.15     (2) when the right half of a roadway is closed to traffic 
  1.16  while under construction or repair; 
  1.17     (3) upon a roadway divided into three marked lanes for 
  1.18  traffic under the rules applicable thereon; or 
  1.19     (4) upon a roadway designated and signposted for one-way 
  1.20  traffic as a one-way roadway; or 
  1.21     (5) when approaching an authorized emergency vehicle parked 
  1.22  on the right shoulder of certain multilane highways pursuant to 
  1.23  subdivision 11. 
  1.24     Sec. 2.  Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 169.18, is 
  1.25  amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.26     Subd. 11.  [PARKED EMERGENCY VEHICLE, MOVE TO LEFT 
  2.1   LANE.] The driver of a vehicle on a street or highway having two 
  2.2   lanes in the same direction shall safely move the vehicle to the 
  2.3   left lane when approaching and before passing an authorized 
  2.4   emergency vehicle that is parked or otherwise stopped on the 
  2.5   right shoulder of the street or highway.
