A bill for an act
relating to education; requiring automatic external defibrillators in school
buildings; amending Minnesota Statutes 2010, section 326B.106, by adding a
subdivision.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2010, section 326B.106, is amended by adding a
subdivision to read:

Beginning January 1, 2014, the code must require at least one approved and operational
automatic external defibrillator, consistent with section 604A.01, subdivision 2, paragraph
(e), in every building in which an early childhood care or education program, an
elementary or secondary education program, or a postsecondary education program or
other adult learning program is provided and where more than 25 people occupy the
building at one time.

new text begin (b) The commissioner, in consultation with the commissioner of health, must adopt
rules governing adequate training on the use of an automatic external defibrillator, the type
of device required for each type of building, the placement of the device in the building,
inspection procedures, and the maintenance of the device.
