  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to motor vehicles; clarifying exemption from 
  1.3             registration taxes for certain well drilling machines, 
  1.4             pump hoists, and other equipment; amending Minnesota 
  1.5             Statutes 2000, section 168.012, subdivision 5.  
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 168.012, 
  1.8   subdivision 5, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 5.  [CARRIER OF CERTAIN EQUIPMENT.] Motor vehicles, 
  1.10  which are used only primarily for the purpose of carrying sawing 
  1.11  machines; well drilling machines, pump hoists, and other 
  1.12  equipment registered under chapter 103I; barn sprayers or corn 
  1.13  shellers permanently attached to them, shall not be subject to 
  1.14  the registration tax as herein provided, but shall be listed for 
  1.15  taxation as personal property as provided by law.  The exemption 
  1.16  in this subdivision for well drilling machines, pump hoists, and 
  1.17  other equipment registered under chapter 103I applies regardless 
  1.18  of whether the well drilling machine, pump hoist, or other 
  1.19  equipment is also carrying materials related to its operation. 
  1.20     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.21     Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment.
