  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to sexually dangerous persons; making the 
  1.3             state financially responsible for costs associated 
  1.4             with certain persons who have sexual psychopathic 
  1.5             personalities or are sexually dangerous; amending 
  1.6             Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 253B.185, by adding a 
  1.7             subdivision. 
  1.8   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.9      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 253B.185, is 
  1.10  amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.11     Subd. 5.  [FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY.] (a) For purposes of 
  1.12  this subdivision, "state facility" has the meaning given in 
  1.13  section 246.50. 
  1.14     (b) Notwithstanding sections 246.54, 253B.045, and any 
  1.15  other law to the contrary, when a petition is filed for 
  1.16  commitment under this section pursuant to the notice required in 
  1.17  section 244.05, subdivision 7, the state is solely responsible 
  1.18  for all costs relating to the petition and the cost of the 
  1.19  person's treatment and confinement at a state facility or county 
  1.20  jail, both prior to and following commitment.
