  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to appropriations; appropriating money to the 
  1.3             Minnesota Festivals and Events Association to promote 
  1.4             tourism. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.7      $522,000 is appropriated from the general fund to the 
  1.8   commissioner of trade and economic development for a grant to 
  1.9   Minnesota Festivals and Events Association for the following 
  1.10  amounts and purposes: 
  1.11     (1) $80,000 is for a partnership with the University of 
  1.12  Minnesota's tourism center to build the methodology for a 
  1.13  low-cost economic impact model that will allow festival and 
  1.14  event managers to conduct research independently in their own 
  1.15  communities; 
  1.16     (2) $140,000 is to promote regional workshops to increase 
  1.17  production value and professionalism for events in the state, 
  1.18  increase event service and entertainment value for local 
  1.19  residents, build community awareness of opportunities to 
  1.20  generate new tourism, and assure production of high quality, 
  1.21  safe, and meaningful tourism products that are in line with the 
  1.22  vision, mission, and growth goals of individual towns and cities 
  1.23  in Minnesota; 
  1.24     (3) $50,000 is for a partnership with the University of 
  1.25  Minnesota's tourism center to enhance professionalism via its 
  2.1   certified festival manager program, training event managers and 
  2.2   volunteer staff to implement value-added festivals and events 
  2.3   for visitors to the state; 
  2.4      (4) $230,000 is for a partnership with the Minnesota office 
  2.5   of tourism and Minnesota Monthly Magazine, to publish a pull-out 
  2.6   mini-magazine advertising the statewide festivals and events 
  2.7   calendar for the year; and 
  2.8      (5) $22,000 is to expand the Minnesota Festivals and Events 
  2.9   Association website, to provide travel planners with more 
  2.10  festival and event intensive links to communities hosting such 
  2.11  activities. 
  2.12     The amounts are available for the biennium ending June 30, 
  2.13  2001.
