A bill for an act
relating to local government; requiring certain cities to place automatic external
defibrillators in police vehicles; amending Minnesota Statutes 2006, sections
169.752; 169.753.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2006, section 169.752, is amended to read:


169.752 PATROL MOTOR VEHICLES, FIRST AID EQUIPMENT.

Every patrol motor vehicle
shall be equipped with and carry first aid equipment.

new text begin Automatic external defibrillators required in certain vehicles. new text end

statutory or home rule charter city of the first, second, or third class that provides police
protection must equip each patrol motor vehicle with an automatic external defibrillator.
Cities are encouraged to seek funding for the purchase of automatic external defibrillators
from nongovernmental sources.

Sec. 2.

Minnesota Statutes 2006, section 169.753, is amended to read:


169.753 LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS TRAINED IN FIRST AID.

Law enforcement officers operating patrol motor vehicles shall be trained in the use
and application of first aid equipment.new text begin A law enforcement officer in a patrol motor vehicle
equipped with an automatic external defibrillator must be trained in its use.
