A bill for an act
relating to education; requiring school districts that offer cardiopulmonary
resuscitation or automatic external defibrillator instruction to use instruction
developed by the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross, or uses
nationally recognized, evidence-based guidelines; proposing coding for new law
in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 120B.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

School districts are encouraged to include cardiopulmonary resuscitation and
automatic external defibrillator instruction as part of their curriculum and may seek the
cooperation of trained local law enforcement officials or emergency medical technicians
in providing the instruction. Schools offering cardiopulmonary resuscitation or automatic
external defibrillator instruction must use cardiopulmonary resuscitation or automatic
external defibrillator training that has been developed:

(1) by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross and incorporate
psychomotor skills to support the instruction; or

(2) using nationally recognized, evidence-based guidelines for cardiopulmonary
resuscitation and incorporates psychomotor skills to support the instruction.
