A bill for an act
relating to transportation; specifying minimum funding for alternative
transportation; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 174.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

new text begin For purposes of this section, the following terms have
the meanings given them:

new text begin (1) "STIP" means the state transportation improvement program; and
new text end

new text begin (2) "transportation alternatives" means those projects identified in the state
transportation improvement program having (i) a program category of bike trail,
enhancement, or recreational trail; (ii) any program category that is substantially similar to
a category identified in item (i); or (iii) a route system category of ped/bike.

new text begin (a) In each update or amendment to the approved
state transportation improvement program, the commissioner shall allocate funds such
that (1) the average amount of funding for transportation alternatives over all fiscal years
identified in the STIP, is equal to or greater than (2) the average amount of funding for
transportation alternatives over the fiscal years immediately prior to the earliest year
identified in the STIP.
