A bill for an act
proposing an amendment to the Minnesota Constitution,
article VII, section 6; changing the age of
eligibility to hold elective office from 21 to 18.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT.

new text begin An amendment to the Minnesota Constitution, article VII,
section 6, is proposed to the people.

new text begin If the amendment is adopted, the section will read:

Sec. 6.

Every person who by the provisions of this article
is entitled to vote at any election and is deleted text begin 21 deleted text end new text begin 18 new text end years of age is
eligible for any office elective by the people in the district
wherein he has resided 30 days previous to the election, except
as otherwise provided in this constitution, or the constitution
and law of the United States.

Sec. 2. new text begin SUBMISSION TO VOTERS.

new text begin The proposed amendment must be submitted to the people at
the 2006 general election. The question submitted must be:

new text begin "Shall the Minnesota Constitution be amended to change the
age of eligibility to hold elective office from 21 to 18 years
of age?
