  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to health; modifying MinnesotaCare 
  1.3             eligibility requirements for persons with continuation 
  1.4             coverage; amending Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 
  1.5             256L.07, by adding a subdivision. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 256L.07, is 
  1.8   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 4.  [EXEMPTION FOR PERSONS WITH CONTINUATION 
  1.10  COVERAGE.] (a) Families, children, and individuals who want to 
  1.11  apply for the MinnesotaCare program upon termination from 
  1.12  continuation coverage required under federal or state law are 
  1.13  exempt from the requirements of subdivisions 2 and 3. 
  1.14     (b) For purposes of paragraph (a), "termination from 
  1.15  continuation coverage" means involuntary termination for any 
  1.16  reason, other than nonpayment of premium by the family, child, 
  1.17  or individual.  Involuntary termination includes termination of 
  1.18  coverage due to reaching the end of the maximum period for 
  1.19  continuation coverage required under federal or state law.
