A bill for an act
relating to agriculture; appropriating money for native plant, forage, and turf
seed research.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

new text begin $100,000 in fiscal year 2010 and $100,000 in fiscal year 2011 are appropriated from
the general fund to the commissioner of agriculture for annual grants to the Minnesota
Turf Seed Council for basic and applied agronomic research on native plants, including
plant breeding, nutrient management, pest management, disease management, yield, and
viability, and on the improved production of forage and turf seed related to new and
improved varieties. The grant recipient may subcontract with a qualified third party for
some or all of the basic or applied research. The grant recipient must actively participate
in the Agricultural Utilization Research Institute's Renewable Energy Roundtable and
no later than February 1, 2011, must report to the house of representatives and senate
committees with jurisdiction over agriculture finance.
