  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to health; providing for an automatic 
  1.3             inflation adjustment to the appropriation for the 
  1.4             emergency medical services fund; amending Minnesota 
  1.5             Statutes 1998, section 144E.50, by adding a 
  1.6             subdivision. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 144E.50, is 
  1.9   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.10     Subd. 2a.  [INFLATION ADJUSTMENT.] The commissioner of 
  1.11  finance shall recommend to the legislature in each biennial 
  1.12  budget document an inflation adjustment to the general fund 
  1.13  appropriation to the emergency medical services fund.  The 
  1.14  adjustment shall be effective July 1 of each year and shall be 
  1.15  equal to the percentage change in the Consumer Price Index for 
  1.16  All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) (United States city average, all 
  1.17  items) for each year of the biennium, as forecasted by Data 
  1.18  Resources, Inc., in the fourth quarter of the calendar year 
  1.19  prior to submission of the biennial budget.
