  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to state employment; Minnesota state colleges 
  1.3             and universities system; permitting retired employees 
  1.4             formerly represented by the Minnesota federation of 
  1.5             teachers to elect between certain contract provisions. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [MINNESOTA STATE COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES 
  1.8   SYSTEM; ELECTION OF BENEFITS BY CERTAIN RETIRED EMPLOYEES.] 
  1.9      (a) A person who was employed by the Minnesota state 
  1.10  colleges and universities system before June 30, 1997, who was 
  1.11  represented in collective bargaining matters by the Minnesota 
  1.12  federation of teachers, and who retired between the settlement 
  1.13  date of the collective bargaining contract with the united 
  1.14  technical college educators in April 1997 and June 30, 1997, may 
  1.15  elect between the retirement related provisions of the Minnesota 
  1.16  federation of teachers contract or the united technical college 
  1.17  educators contract. 
  1.18     (b) The Minnesota state colleges and universities system 
  1.19  shall pay any increased cost associated with the benefit 
  1.20  election under paragraph (a). 
  1.21     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.22     Section 1 is effective on the day following final enactment.
